He was on track to become a director at an architecture firm. First-class honors degree. Great salary. Clear career path.
But he looked at the directors in front of him gray, fat, overweight, stressed and thought: this is where I'm heading.
Josh Lancaster spent years covering up his insecurities with alcohol. Growing up with severe cystic acne destroyed his confidence, and drinking became his way to cope. Every Saturday was a blackout. Until one night at Leeds Festival, he woke up with no memory of the night before, people looking for him, and a deep feeling that something had to change.
He hasn't touched a drink in over four years.
What followed was a complete transformation physically, mentally, and spiritually. He discovered he'd been carrying mold toxins in his system since childhood (the cause of much of his health issues). He lost 20kg, couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without stopping, and had to rebuild everything from scratch.
Now he's an online fitness coach helping men transform their bodies and minds through his coaching brand Build to Thrive. But this episode goes way deeper than sets and reps. We talk about the connection between inner demons and physical transformation, why most people are overtraining and undereating, the spiritual shift that made him cry, and why "if you don't fight the demons inside, you're never gonna lose weight."
If you're stuck in a career you hate, using something to cope, or feeling like there has to be more this one's for you.
